Lifestyle Newborn Photography in the South West: Rosie, Tom & Baby Ellis

There is something incredibly special about photographing a family in those first precious weeks of bringing their baby home.

The sleepy cuddles, tiny fingers, the way a newborn fits perfectly into their parents' arms, and those quiet moments in between, these are the memories that pass by far too quickly.

That is exactly what I love about lifestyle newborn photography in the South West. Rather than creating a perfectly posed version of newborn life, lifestyle sessions are about slowing down and capturing the connection, love and little moments that make this season so incredibly special. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Rosie, Tom and their beautiful baby boy, Ellis, in Bunbury, and their session was everything I love about lifestyle newborn photography.

Welcoming Baby Ellis

There was such a beautiful sense of calm and connection throughout their session. Newborn photography doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, some of my favourite images come from the simplest moments — a parent holding their baby close, tiny toes resting against a chest, a gentle kiss on the forehead, or those sleepy newborn cuddles that you wish you could bottle up forever.

With Ellis so little, we allowed the session to unfold naturally around him. There was no pressure to keep him perfectly settled or to rush from one pose to the next. If he needed a feed, a cuddle or a little break, we simply paused.

And that's one of the beautiful things about a lifestyle newborn session, your baby doesn't need to fit into the photography session. The session fits around your baby.

Capturing the connection

For me, newborn photography isn't just about photographing the baby. It's about photographing you becoming parents. It's the way Mum looks down at her baby. The way Dad cradles those tiny hands. The little smiles that happen when you realise just how quickly this new chapter is going by. Those are the photographs that become more meaningful as the years pass.

One day, Ellis will be much bigger. He won't fit quite so perfectly into his parents' arms, and these tiny newborn details will exist only in photographs and memories. That's why I love capturing the whole family during a newborn session.

A relaxed approach to newborn photography

Lifestyle newborn sessions are designed to feel relaxed and natural. You don't need to know how to pose, and you certainly don't need to worry about whether your home is "perfect". Your baby doesn't need to sleep through the entire session either. My approach is gentle and baby-led, allowing plenty of time for cuddles, feeds and little pauses whenever they're needed. I love using beautiful natural light and simple surroundings to keep the focus where it belongs ,on your family and the connection between you. Whether you're in Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Dunsborough or somewhere else across the South West, I want your photographs to feel like you.

Beautiful, authentic and full of emotion.

The moments you'll want to remember

The newborn stage can feel like a blur. The late nights, the endless feeds, the tiny clothes, the sleepy cuddles and the feeling that you could stare at your baby forever. It's easy to think you'll remember all of it.

But babies change so quickly. Those tiny fingers become little hands. Newborn stretches become rolling, crawling and walking. Before you know it, you're wondering how your baby was ever small enough to fit into your arms.

That's why these photographs matter. They give you something tangible to come back to — not just photographs of what your baby looked like, but photographs of what this season felt like. Rosie, Tom and Ellis' session was such a beautiful reminder of exactly why I love what I do.

The quiet moments.

The connection.

The tiny details.

The love.

And all the beautiful, ordinary moments that make this extraordinary chapter of life so special.
